Great question. The trucks are both brushed and brushless. I now have three solid axle monster trucks for racing and two brushed and one is brushless.–Matt Higgins

Thanks for the quick response! I’ve got a Stampede 4×4 on order for my first ever hobby grade RC. Would have been nice to see one out there mixing it up with the solid axels.

In a typical solid axle monster truck race, a independent suspension truck like the Stampede 4X4 would not be allowed. It’s kind of like allowing a stadium truck in a short course race–typically not allowed, but race directions do make exceptions. In my case, I once raced a Stampede 4X4 in a solid axle truck race because the race director allowed it.–Matt Higgins

Stampede 4x4s are not allowed to compete in the monster truck races?
June 23rd, 2013 at 4:21 pm
Yes and no. Most are heavily modified, but start out as kits–usually a Tamiya Clod Buster. Check out RC Truck Stop for an article on this type of racing. Go to the RC Truck Stop site and search for “RC Monster Truck Racing –Alive and Well”–Matt Higgins

You’re right. An E-Maxx would be at a disadvantage on a tight course. I once was allowed to race a Traxxas Stampede 4X4 against a fleet of these true monster trucks. I did really well. As long as I didn’t roll, I beat them off the line, over the jumps and through the corners.–Matt Higgins

Looks like great fun

I began watching this thinking, “Psh, my E-Maxx would whomp those trucks!”. After watching a while longer and noticing the tires, suspension, and turning radius, I began thinking “Huh. No, no it wouldn’t! I’d get my tail handed to me!” Awesome video! I love seeing unique classes!
