Fine Customizing Rc Trucks

Tag: RC Truckadmin @ 11:35 pm

To set up a slipper clutch

Rc trucks have seen much fine tuning over the past few years and improved in performance benchmarks. More so, the level of competing has tremendously improved. Today, rc vehicles are high powered to face extreme driving conditions including handling extreme speed and power of motor. A popular way to make the truck handle extreme driving conditions is to make use of a slipper clutch. The slipper controls operations for off-road driving in buggies and trucks. The prime functions of slipper clutch in rc trucks are to protect drive terrain parts from malfunctioning and control spinning of the wheel.  Slipper clutch provides a cushion of protection against shock to parts of rc vehicles. Wheel spinning causes large dents to a car’s performance. Spinning wheels doesn’t make the truck to move as long as no gripping is available.

Power from dual battery

Another way to improve the power of rc vehicles is to use more batteries. You can use dual batteries instead of one on the battery powered rc truck model. It is not that straight forward using two batteries. You need to know the detailed trick before actualizing it. The first step is making sure the rc vehicle model is capable to handle and compatible with the two batteries. This does not only entail physical compatibility but electronic one as well. The rc vehicle should be able to carry and accommodate the two batteries. Allocations of slots for proper carrying of the batteries need to be done right. Many high performing rc trucks being manufactured today are designed with the objective in mind.

Most batteries for use are quite heavy weight and size. Thus, make sure addition of extra battery doesn’t exceed the safe weight limit of the rc truck model. Electrical compatibility is another factor to consider. Physical compatibility doesn’t guarantee absolute compatibility with dual batteries.

Electrical specifications including current and voltage of the batteries should be compatible with the allowed limits and requirement s of the truck model.  One easily checks this by studying specifications guide and rc model and checking the current limit and maximum voltageelectronics of trucks models can handle. Then physically mount the batteries and make connections with the electronics of the model. Physical mounting is simple with well defined mounting structures for the dual batteries for electrical trucks. Next make electrical contacts. This can be done in various ways depending on whether one wants to make a series of parallel or series connection. A series connection is made simple using a y adaptor. This is a plugging attachment enabling one to makes series electrical contacts instantly. Soldering contacts is a brute way of making the contacts. Soldering provides advantage of freedom on how to make the contacts and how you want it placed.

Jazzing up rc model with stickers

Every hobbyist wishes to make a statement on the track through their rc trucks models. This does not only mean a strong and performing model but one that also makes a statement for itself from looks. Adding some extra such stickers gives rc trucks a finishing touch.

Non-Monster Rc Trucks

Tag: RC Truckadmin @ 12:25 am

When one mentions about rc trucks, typically it’s the monster truck that comes to the mind of many hobbyists in this field of remote controlled vehicles. What needs to ne noted is that there are other types of radio control truck. Rc trucks, just like any other remote vehicle can be categorized as non-scale or scale. By saying “scale” it means the toy vehicle has been modeled from a real-life truck. These kinds of remote controlled vehicles can also be categorized as electric, nitro and a 2 stroke gasoline powered. The stadium trucks are the most popular kind of remote controlled trucks and are made to be driven of rougher surfaces partly because of their robust nature compared to a normal on-road car.

Stadium trucks are adaptive to dirty tracks and are fun to drive in such terrain. These cars are able to reach fast speeds not forgetting their good handling nature as well. The Traxxas Nitro Sport RTR Stadium Truck is one such example and is two wheels driven. The nitro sport has become popular both as club level racing and as a first time model. The brand Traxxas is long known as a favorite manufacturer of rc trucks for many hobbyists of which the Nitro Sport is one of their popular model products. Electric stadium trucks are available as well and are easier to run and cheap to buy but with a nitro truck, one experiences more exhilaration and fun at the track.

Micro and mini rc trucks

Technology is advancing and as a result everything in the radio controlled world of rc trucks is getting smaller and smaller. The brand “Team Losi”seems to be the leader with their 1:36 and 1:18 scale vehicles which are good little trucks made to be very suitable for racing on back yards, club tracks as well as around the house.  The Micro-T is the smallest ready-to-run (RTR) that Team Losi offers and measures just under 5 inches long.

The Micro-Desert truck is made to drive on rough terrain and can fit the pal of your hands. The Micro Highrollar is made to break limits by driving almost anywhere that no Micro has gone before. These are just some among many of the Team Losi truck models available in the market.

It is typical of scale rc trucks to be powered by electric motors but this is not always the case. The most popular kind of remote controlled trucks for scale lovers are the semi-trailers and Big Rig trucks with some very impressive models around. Although scale trucks were not made for racing, but one can always try and set up a street racing with friends.  The scale rc trucks can be bought in true kit or RTR form depending on a person’s preference.  Examples of scale electric powered rc models available as kits include the Ford F-150 Lightening, which is a nice utility truck kit. The King Hauler Truck from brand Tamiya is a very good example of a scale tractor truck. To drive rc trucks is a lot of fun whether at home or at a race in a club.

What are Rc Trucks?

Tag: RC Truckadmin @ 8:19 am

Rc stands for “radio-controlled” and rc trucks are radio-controlled vehicles self powered and controlled from a distance using a special type of transmitter called radio control. The term rc can also mean “remote controlled” and include toy vehicles that are connected to their controller using a wire but commonly it today, they are controlled using a radio frequency link. Rc vehicles are powered by various sources and these include electric, nitro and gasoline rc trucks. Electric vehicles are the most common for beginners and are powered by electric motors and rechargeable batteries such as nickel metal hydride, nickel-cadmium and lithium polymer cells. Electric motors exist of two types namely brushed and brushless electric motors but brushless motors are more efficient and powerful therefore are being used today.

The fuel powered rc trucks include nitro and gasoline rc vehicles and use glow plug engines, and small internal combustion engines that require a fuel mixture of Nitromethane, methanol and oil for nitro rc vehicles. Most of the time, it is a blend mixture of castor oil and synthetic oil. Gasoline remote controlled trucks use a mixture of oil and gasoline as fuel. The electric trucks as mentioned before are preferred by novices because of ease to work with compared to gasoline and nitro vehicle models. At higher skill and budget levels, electric cars can be equally complex to deal with.

The rc trucks are classified as on-road and off-road vehicles with on-road rc vehicles having much less robust suspension, are limited for driving in paved surfaces or smooth surfaces.

On-road remote controlled trucks on the other hand are made a fully functional off-road suspension with a wide tire selection and can be used on a wide variety of terrain. The on-road rc trucks today have suspensions which are as adjustable as many full scale race cars today.  The term “toy-grade” in regard to radio controlled cars is used to describe vehicles which are pre-assembled and found in discount stores or consumer electronic stores.  Colloquially, they can be referred to as “radio shack cars”.  Some r/c models are found in hobby shops to gain market share from discount stores and attract interest of younger people.

What are the advantages of rc vehicles? Cost is one of advantage rc vehicles including rc trucks have. An average medium-scale rc vehicle can cost around $ 50 to $ 100 cheaper compared to an entry level electric hobby class vehicle. Toy class vehicles have an easy operation, are relatively low in danger because of speeds ranging from 16 km/h to 32 km/h and are easier to set up compared to the simplest ready-to-run vehicles (RTR’s). The design model of toy class vehicles resemble those of real cars with details not found in hobby class cars such sounds, working lights, realistic interiors, and opening doors and hoods among others. All these are at the expense of durability and weight. Some of rc vehicles feature working sound systems with MP3 players and radios. The toy vehicles are an endless array of rc trucks, rc cars, motor cycles and bulldozers.

Types of Rc Trucks

Tag: RC Truckadmin @ 9:18 am

When a person talks about rc trucks, in the mind of many hobbyists, they think mostly of monster trucks. There are different types of trucks available in the market. Truck vehicles can be categorized as scale or non-scale. Scale trucks are modeled from real life vehicles. Stadium trucks are popular and are driven in tough terrains. They are adapted to such terrain because of their robust nature. Despite being adaptable to such dirty terrain, they also reach fast speeds. Rc vehicles are fun to drive partly because of their good handling nature. The Traxxas Nitro Sport RTR Stadium Truck is a monster truck that drives on two wheels. Nitro sport trucks are popular for club level racing and are first time models for many hobbyists. Electric trucks are also available. These are easy to drive and buy but nitro trucks provide fun and exhilaration at the track.

Mini rc trucks

Technological advancement has resulted to parts of rc vehicles getting smaller. Team Losi brand is among the leaders with their 1:18 and 1:36 scale vehicles. These rc vehicles can be raced at club tracks, back yards, and around the house. Micro-T is one of the models from Team Losi brand that measures just less than 5 inches in length. The brand also has the Micro-Desert Truck made to drive on rough terrain and small enough to fit pal of hands. Breaking the limits is the Micro Highrollar that drives. It can drive anyplace. Although it is typical that Micro rc trucks are powered by electric motors, this is not always the case. The shapes and sizes of these dust-soaked devils are varied. Beginning from bouncing buggies to monstrous big wheel trucks.

Their design is made for off-road driving. They pass over anything that comes their way. Although the trucks can be driven on-road, which is not the purpose they were made for.

The big question is do you prefer gas powered or electric rc trucks?  For a person starting out, it is recommended that he/she goes for a ready to run electric truck.  This is ideal for those with no prior experience in the hobby. The RTR makes are ready to run. Popular models these days are ready to run versions with some available as unassembled kits.

Rc trucks sizes are categorized in 1/x scale. The higher the x the smaller the size.  Typically, rc trucks are known for their big size, big wheels, big engines, big frames and big power among others. The smallest size of the trucks is the 1/36th scale. Example of such a truck is the Team Losi new Micro-T Stadium Truck. It is the smallest in its class. It is two-wheeled and electric powered. The measurements are as follows: 4.5 inches length, 3.5 inches width and 3 inches wheelbase.  The suspension is fully independent with an auto speed transmission. The 1/98th scale is next in size. It belongs to the mini family which is very fast growing in popularity. This is because it can run on one’s command at almost any place with more power than the micro one.

RC Trucks Engine Tuning

Tag: RC Truckadmin @ 9:57 am

It’s always important that you get the maximum power from your engine. RC trucks depends on their engine and power source in order to give the best running condition. That’s why it’s important to maintain the engine in order to get the full potential of the truck. No matter what the model and design of your RC truck, it still needs proper care and maintenance in order to last longer and become competitive. There are some tips that you can follow in order for you to tune up you engine.

First, always ensure that there are no air leaks in the engine. To do this, use a high-temperature gasket or silicon sealants which can be bought in almost all RC hobby stores. Be sure to apply the sealant into the areas that are prone to leakage, this are the carburetor, the exhaust manifold, and the back plate. These parts are all found against the engine block of your RC trucks. This will help you avoid bigger damage to you engine. Air leaks are often unnoticeable but in time can expand the damage to a more noticeable engine breakage.

Next thing you need to check always is the motor break-in. Always check the proper break-in procedure in order to obtain a good running condition. To do this, try to run at least 3 tanks of fuel through your engine, then maintain the temperature at about 140 to 160 degrees. Avoid going top speed while running but constantly change the rate of the speed. This will help you check if the engine overheats easily. Also, try to open the cover of the RC trucks while running to keep the engine ventilated and cool.

There are times where you find your RC trucks running at a weird temperature.

Common problems of in the engine includes fast over heating. To fix this, try to tune your engine carburetor slightly “rich”. You can also tune the low end, then adjust again at the high end. A common way to avoid easy over heating is to cut holes on the windshield so that the air can easily get inside and cool off the engine.

Tuning the engine of RC trucks needs proper running temperature for every run. Usually, you need to run your truck with an engine temperature of 200 to 210 degrees. Make sure that you keep this temperature, once you exceed this temperature it could be dangerous. You can also lean the engine out to get more power and cooling air.

Understanding RC Trucks

Tag: RC Truckadmin @ 2:24 am

RC trucks refers to any model trucks which can be controlled from a distance using a transmitter. The transmitter can either be connected to the truck itself using a wire or wireless using a radio-frequency remote controller. Over the last years, people became very fanatic when it comes to radio-controlled vehicles. They even came to the point where they are willing to spend thousands of dollars just to get the right taste. The level of fun that Radio-controlled truck gives to the people is somehow priceless though.

RC trucks are have various and distinct power sources, it can be electric or fuel powered depending on the preference of the user. For electric-powered trucks, the main power source is a rechargeable battery which is usually made of nickel-cadmium or lithium polymer. These batteries gives power to the electric motors, enabling the vehicle to move when controlled. These type of trucks are also the most preferred by novice users because of easier handling. Regarding the price, electric-powered trucks are generally cheaper but can also become very expensive when constantly modified.

Another power source for RC trucks is a specialized fuel. Most fuel-powered models are called “nitros”, these models have a small internal combustion engines which mainly uses a mixture of nitromethane, methanol, and oil as a fuel. In general, Nitros are much powerful compared to electric-trucks but usually emits loud noise when in motion, thus making it very noisy. Nowadays, there are even larger models that uses gasoline as fuel. Most gasoline-powered models are very powerful but also very expensive at the same time.

RC trucks are categorized into two major functions, namely off-road and on-road.

Both of these categories, are available in most RC toy shops and comes at various rates. Usually, off-road trucks are built with a fully functional suspensions which is very useful for conquering difficult terrains. On the other hand, on-road trucks are mainly designed for flat and plain surface. On-road trucks have a lesser suspension build which makes it incapable of running through rough terrains.

Different people have their own preferences of choosing RC trucks. The level of experience is also a key factor why people choose a certain truck over other. Whatever type of RC truck you use, just make sure that you have fun with it. That’s what RC vehicles is all about, giving fun to people.

Building Rc Trucks Track

Tag: RC Truckadmin @ 4:48 pm

How does a person build rc trucks track on his/her own. Tracks are construed in various sizes and these include medium, standard and wide. When it comes for a person to build his/her rc track, the size, shape and variation differ according to individual needs and specifications. It is an individual track and therefore a person builds it the way he/she wants it to be. First things first, what are the factors one should consider? Making sure the budget for building the track fits it is an important consideration but first determine the kind of track you really want. There is a pro race track and casual track for home use. A casual track for home use presents an easy task to build but a pro race track demands a bigger, time consuming, more expensive project. Most people go for casual race tracks for home use.

How to build a home race track for rc trucks

Surface area of a home race track is one thing you cannot overlook. Before even one gets to construct his/her masterpiece, take a look at conditions of the floor. Depending on the location you want the race track to be placed, a hobbyist needs to make sure the surface area for building the track is flat and durable. If not, make some adjustments to the original surface such as pouring concrete to make the surface even. To pour concrete can be scary for those hobbyists who have done it before but it’s not tough. Going to ask for help to your local hardware store is a good idea if one has never tried it before. Making the surface area of the track “carpet” is a good idea. The best is a good low-friction carpet but not the kind found in your living room. Go look at a local shop selling carpets.

The right measurements

Grabbing a graph paper helps one in the measurements so that he/she does the right thing from the beginning.

It is greatly discouraged doing it on a whim. The right procedure is to measure out the space one is going to build the track. Measurements are done using a measurement tape then transfer that to the graph paper. If one only has 16 feet by 16 feet space to work on, then make sure each foot on the graph paper is properly measured so as not to over/under size the track. When it comes to the design there is no real set rule on how the track is supposed to look. Just remember that it is your track and therefore should look the way you want it to look. You can make turns wherever you feel like, the idea here is to be creative and have fun.

Keep in mind that you should leave enough room for the rc trucks to turn corners etc.  When planning to race a couple of rc trucks on the track, you need to have a space of at least 4 to 7 feet from wall to wall. Drawing out on the graph paper with the right kind of measurements will definitely give you the right kind of track designed the way you want it.
